Botanical Properties
Katrafay is a tree from the Rutaceae family. Often referred to as 'white mahogany', its vernacular name is 'Katrafay'. It grows naturally in south Madagascar and can reach up to 28m. Its alternate leaves measure around 15cm long and its pale grey, almost yellowy bark has a rough outer surface.
This tree is indigenous to Madagascar and grows on all types of soil. It may be propagated by stem cuttings or spreading seeds.
Origin and history
Katrafay wood is known for its strength and toughness. By virtue of its imperishable nature, it was traditionally used for making the royal Sakalava tombs.
Nowadays, its wood is sought after for shipbuilding, heavy construction, interior panelling and decorative woodwork. The Cedrelopsis grevei plays an important role in traditional Malagasy medicine, in which the fresh leaves and root bark are used to treat many ailments.

Indications
Katrafay essential oil can be used to treat inflammatory skin diseases, eczema, varicose veins, tired legs, psoriasis and skin allergies. It is also an effective treatment for muscular pain, rheumatism, arthritis and tendinitis.

On the skin: Mix 1ml of organic katrafay essential oil + 10ml calendula oil and apply to the area affected by eczema or skin allergies.
By diffusion: When diffused in the atmosphere, it works as a general tonic.
Precautions
Flammable. Oral use only under medical advice. Keep out of reach of children. Unadvisable for children under the age of three, pregnant or lactating women. Do not apply to the skin before exposing oneself to the sun. Can be used in cooking. Do not apply neat to the skin.
