Organic Lavandin Super

Lavandula angustifolia

Botanical Properties

English Lavender, a member of the Lamiaceae family, is referred to be several names: True Lavender, Common Lavender and Narrow-leaved Lavender. It grows as a bushy shrub and can reach up to 1m high. It has long, narrow leaves, which are greyish-green in colour. Its flowers grow as spikes on the ends of the plant's long, unbranched stems and take on a purple or mauve colour when in bloom. True or English lavender mainly grows in Provence.

Origin and history

The benefits of English lavender have been known for centuries. In Ancient times, branches of the lavender were burned to purify and disinfect rooms. The famous Lavandières (washerwomen) of Provence used it to beat their linen at the washhouse or by the river. There are over a hundred different varieties of lavender, but English lavender remains the favourite due to the olfactory and therapeutic uses of its essential oil.
