Organic Lemon Beebrush

Organic Lemon Beebrush

Lippia citriodora

Botanical Properties

Also known as the Lemon Verbena, the Lemon Beebrush is a woody plant that can reach up to 1.5 to 2m. It belongs to the Verbenaceae family. Its deciduous, indented, pointed leaves release a lemony scent when rubbed. Its small white flowers cluster like a spearhead in summer until the start of autumn.

Origin and history

Originating from South America (Chile, Peru), the Lemon Beebrush's medicinal values have been known since Ancient times. Through its association with the Gods, the plant's name means 'sacred branch' in Latin.  It is one of the most precious oils, because 7,000kg of the plant must be distilled to get 1kg of its essential oil. In herbalism, lemon beebrush is known for its medicinal properties, whereas in cooking, it acts as a delicious accompaniment to desserts, sauces, marinades and liqueurs.
