Organic Neroli
Citrus auranitum
Botanical Properties
Neroli essential oil is produced by distilling the flowers of the bitter orange tree. The bitter orange tree belongs to the Citrus genus, and the Rutaceae family. It can measure up to 5m in height and has dark green, waxy, oval leaves. Its white flowers emit a soft, delicate scent, and blossom in spring.
Origin and history
Bitter orange originated in China, where it has been used in traditional medicine for centuries for cardiac and digestive problems. It has acclimatised to Mediterranean climates, and nowadays is even found as far-a -field as in Paraguay. Bitter orange is just as popular in perfumeries as in aromatherapy. Delicate jams and conserves, along with preserved peels, are made from this fruit. It is also used as an ingredient in many desserts, flavoured wines, and liqueurs.
