Organic Caraway
Carum carvi
Botanical Properties
Caraway is a biannual plant that is otherwise known as meridian fennel. It belongs to the Apiaceae family and produces white flowers that are organised in umbrella-like structures. This plant, which can reach 80cm in height, makes small, arc shaped seeds that are harvested when they turn brown.
Origin and history
The caraway plant can be traced back to many locations, including Asia, Europe, and Northern Africa. Caraway was used for thousands of years before Christ as a condiment and for its medicinal properties. Due to its aromatic virtues, caraway is used to enrich salads and soups (in the form of fresh, chopped leaves), meat, fish, or cheese (grains).
