Organic Garlic
Allium sativum
Botanical Properties
Garlic, or Allium sativum belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family. It is frequently found thriving in our gardens and vegetable patches, and has a bulb (or head) containing numerous cloves. This herbaceous, bulbous plant grows a stem of around 15cm, and flowers between June and August with pinky white flowers
Origin and history
This plant probably originates from Asia, where it has been used for many thousand years for its therapeutic virtues, and for its protective “powers” within magical circles. Nowadays, garlic is an indispensable condiment and is central within most cuisines worldwide. In France, it is particularly appreciated in Provence, where it is used in many traditional recipes: aioli, aigo boulido (garlic and sage soup), bouillabaisse, mayonnaise, marinades etc.
