Botanical Properties

Grapefruit, which is sometimes referred to as pomelo, is a fruit that is well known and sold in its fresh form and for its juice. It is a natural hybrid which is the product of the orange and Citrus maxima. Grapefruit is produced by a fruit tree that belongs to the Rutaceae family. When ripe its fruit can weigh up to 600 grams, and its peel varies in colour between yellow and pink.

Origin and history

This plant originated in Indonesia, and was later imported to the Americas by the English. Nowadays, it is mainly produced in the United States, Argentina, and Israel.

Indications

Organic grapefruit is a dermal tonic and astringent, a liver and kidney cleanser, a diuretic, and detoxifier: these qualities make it the ideal health and beauty ally. As a natural antiseptic, it is recommended for removing infectious agents from the atmosphere, or to help combat bronchitis and coughs. Grapefruit can act as an effective natural anti-depressant by stimulating endorphin secretion and thus combatting feelings of depression.

Oral administration:

Take 1 drop of organic grapefruit essential oil 2 times a day. Mix with some honey or syrup, or on a lozenge to benefit from its detoxifying effects during a slimming cure.

On the skin:

Anti-cellulite: Mix 30 drops of organic grapefruit essential oil with 10 drops of organic lemon essential oil, and 100ml of organic argan oil, and apply as a tonifying massage in the morning.

By diffusion:

When diffused, grapefruit essential oil will disinfect one’s living spaces and promote a general climate of happiness and serenity.

In energy aromatherapy, grapefruit essential oil is linked to the Manipura Chaka, which is considered the solar chakra. It is associated with the colour yellow.

In order to benefit from its strength and joyfulness, apply a drop of grapefruit essential oil to the celiac plexus each morning before heading out to a heavy day of work.
