Citrus sinensis

Botanical Properties

The orange tree is a small fruit-bearing tree with evergreen leaves that can measure up to 10m in height, and belongs to the Rustaceae family. It has dark green leaves, which are both thick and waxy, and white flowers that emit a characteristic, delicate scent. The orange tree produces the famous orange citrus fruit, which is more specifically known as the sweet orange.

Origin and history

Sweet orange originated in Southeast Asia, however, nowadays it is cultivated in Mediterranean regions (such as Portugal, Spain, and Italy), Carlifornia and Florida. Its essence is highly popular for its fragrance, but also loved for its sweet softness, and its capacity to bring about serenity and a soothing atmosphere. Additionally to its well-known properties that have and continue to be exploited in aromatherapy and perfumery, orange essential oil will also subtly add flavour to your desserts, with its taste providing a nostalgic flashback to you childhood…

Indications

Organic orange essential oil can appease feelings of anxiety, nervousness, agitation, depression, and tackle insomnia. It fights digestive problems and decongests tissue build ups (cellulitis, oedemas). In the kitchen, its mouth-watering fragrance will seduce you and its taste will flavour your dishes, making them even more delicious.

Instructions

Please consult a doctor before taking any treatment or therapy orally. Orange essential oil is photosensitising. Please do not apply to the skin before exposing oneself to the sun.

Oral administration:

Take 2 drops of organic orange essential oil 3 times a day. Mix with some honey or syrup, or on a lozenge to help combat sleeping problems.

On the skin:

Mix 2 drops of orange essential oil and 3 drops of organic sesame essential oil, and use this blend to massage the celiac plexus and the inside of your wrists in order to appease your anxiety or simply to allow yourself a relaxing moment.

By diffusion:

When diffused in the atmosphere, orange essential oil will sanitise your living spaces, all whilst inviting you to enjoy a moment of serenity by the propagation of its sweet and comforting scent.

Energetic values and synergies

In energy aromatherapy orange essential oil is associated with the 2nd chakra, known as Svadhisthana, which is located at the navel. Its associated colour is orange.

Orange essential oil guides one towards meditation, whilst fighting stress and anxiety. In its struggle against insomnia it will facilitate premonitory dreams.

In synergy: Ylang ylang.

Flammable. Oral use only under medical advice. Keep out of reach of children. Unadvisable for children under the age of three, pregnant or lactating women. Do not apply to the skin before exposing oneself to the sun. Can be used in cooking. Do not apply neat to the skin.
