ORGANIC RAVINTSARA

ORGANIC RAVINTSARA

Cinnamomum camphora

Botanical Properties

Ravintsara, known under the scientific name Cinamomum camphora, is a great tree that belongs to the Lauraceae family. It can reach up to 15m in height, and has oval, alternate, evergreen leaves, that are dark green and waxy. It is often confused and interchangeably sold under the name “ravensara aromatic”, which possesses neither then same properties, nor the same biochemical composition.

Origin and history

Originating in Japan, ravintsara was introduced to Madagascar a few centuries ago by colonisers. The Madagascans have since successfully integrated it into their traditional pharmacopeia: indeed, in Madagascan, ravintsara means “good leaf”.
