Organic tea tree
Melaleuca alternifolia
Botanical Properties
Tea tree is a very resistant tree that in the wild can reach up to 8m in height. When cultivated however, to keep it manageable, it is pruned to be kept at bush size. Tea tree belongs to the Myrtaceae family. It has evergreen, lance-shaped, light green leaves, and its white flowers form clusters or whorls that emit a powerful scent.
Origin and history
Captain Cook named this species of Melaleuca after returning from his expeditions during the 18th century, as the British sailors would brew this trees leaves to make tea.
Aboriginals have used it for many thousands of years within their traditional medicinal practices. They consider it to have many therapeutic benefits, but it is also central to many ancestral tales and legends.
