Organic vetiver

Organic vetiver

Vetiveria zizanoides

Botanical Properties

Vetiver is a grass that belongs to the Poaceae family. It can grow to reach over two meters in height, and forms a large tuft, with roots that descend vertically to around 3 meters. Its fresh or dried roots are used to prepare this essential oil.

Origin and history

Originating in India, Vetiver enjoys tropical and swampy zones. The roots of the vetiver plant can be used to multiple ends: to weave carpets or fragrant tresses, to make decorative objects or figurines, or to be rolled into small balls to be placed in one’s wardorobe. Its warm and spicy scent is widely used in perfumeries, where it is above all found in male fragrances. A well-known example of such a perfume is “Vetiver” by Guerlain.
