Botanical Properties

Frankincense is the product of the small Boswellia carterii tree, which belongs to the Burseraceae family. It has multiple branch-supporting trunks that can reach up to 5m in height. This tree possesses a thick foliage and small flowers that are either white or pink in colour. It is called a “bleeder”, as it drips a lots of sap. It is one of the few trees from which resin is harvested, in this case in order to make incense.

Origin and history

The Boswellia c. tree originated in Yemen, where they have cultivated this plant and practiced rituals that use its resin for many thousands of years. In these rituals they burn the frankincense in order to liberate its “divine” smoke. This practice has now spread to many temples and churches, where incense is burnt to attempt to elevate and carry prayers towards the sky and the gods.

Properties

Due to the proportionally high levels of monoterpenes in the biochemical makeup of our organic frankincense essential oil, it is:

• excellent anti-inflammatory
• antiviral
• antiseptic
• antifungal

It also acts as:

• anticatarrhal
• expectorant
• antidepressant

Indications

Cypress essential oil is generally recommended to fight chronic respiratory infections, bronchitis, sinusitis, asthma, scars and slow-healing wounds, fungal infections, and all skin problems (such as stretch marks, wrinkles, and hard skin). It has also been shown to be a great immunostimulant.

Instructions

Please consult your doctor before taking any therapy or treatment orally.

Oral administration:

Take 2 drops of organic frankincense essential oil 3 times a day, mixed with a little honey, syrup, or on a lozenge, to help fight respiratory infections.

On the skin:

Mix 3 drops of organic cypress essential oil with 2 drops of organic hazelnut oil to help with rheumatisms.

By diffusion:

By diffusing this oil in the atmosphere you will promote the elevation of your spirit. It can help prepare for meditation, whilst making the mood of a room more “zen”.
