ORGANIC SPEARMINT
Mentha spicata
Botanical Properties
Spearmint is a vivacious, aromatic plant that belongs to the Lamiaceae family.
This plant can reach up to 60cm in height. It reproduces with aid of their stolons (overground or just underground stems). It has spear shaped leaves, with toothed edges.
It flowers during summer, producing a pink, light mauve, or sometimes white bloom. Its foliage produces a truly fresh and minty odour when its leaves are rubbed.
Origin and history
Spearmint is one of the oldest and most widespread medicinal and aromatic plants. As one of the most ancient documented plants, it is linked to the Greek myth in which it is said to be the child of the nymph Mentha. On top of all of the therapeutic benefits of spearmint that are recorded in Ayurvedic medicine, in Asia and the Middle East spearmint is also popular in many gastronomically acclaimed dishes.
